Engaging With The Media
Turning your work into a story that's accessible to a wider audience and then delivering it in an interview.
We help you find the hook or angle that will draw people to your research and then work on communicating the core messages through the media.
This practical, interactive workshop includes:
Finding “the story” in your research
Discussing language that will illuminate rather than obscure your core messages
Methods for connecting with journalists and others interested in what you’re doing
Techniques to help you perform with ease and confidence in interviews, including how to prepare in advance
Clothing, lighting and body language (we currently emphasise performing with ease online from the home or office environment)
What can go wrong in an interview, and how to avoid it - or turn it to your advantage.
Throughout, examples of good and poor practice are played and discussed in this challenging but fun module.
There is then an opportunity for selected participants to try out their new skills in recorded “as-live” interviews. Detailed feedback is given in these one-to-one sessions.
A half day workshop,
Or
A full day including five x one-to-one interview coaching sessions.
“Completely exceeded my expectations!!! I went in thinking “gotta do this to tick an ESRC box”, ended up learning so much about myself, my own research from a different perspective and how to communicate it. Really useful personal interview feedback and super content throughout. So glad Oxford arranged this, I’ll recommend it to everyone.”
